Nope. Not Gonna.

When I reached a certain age, I decided I wasn’t going to do anything I didn’t want to do anymore. Nope, I don’t want to go for a run with you on Saturday morning at 6am. No, I really don’t want to take on that extra responsibility, thank you very much. And NO, I am not gonna eat the food anymore that I don’t like, just because it’s good for me. I sheepishly admit – I don’t like raw carrots. *gasp* I know! Who doesn’t like carrots, right? We all eat them, because they are good for us in lots of ways. But guess what? I don’t LIKE them. I’ve been consuming them for years because everyone else did – it's a crunchy snack, right? No, you can’t replace chips with carrots, so no- I’m done with raw carrots!

It’s important to really inspect the things you choose to do and your motives for doing them. It’s ok to be selfish in this way; saying no is a form of self-care. Of course, there are many things that we want to stop doing that would yield negative consequences (brushing our teeth, or making meals for our children, to name a couple...) so we can’t begin to dismiss EVERY non-preferred action. But there’s a healthy relief that comes with making this conscious decision to reject the things (within reason) that you don’t fully embrace. There’s a little bit of a rush to think, “Today, I choose NOT to eat the carrots!” and to lean into the roasted brussels sprouts that I simply adore. Take a stand, and happy choosing!

Energetically yours,
